Fatehabad, situated 40 kilometres from Hisar, is an important town of North West Haryana. The history of Fatehabad dates back to the 14th Century, when Emperor Firoz Shah Tughlak founded it and named it after his son Fateh Khan. The town was given the status of a district on 15th July 1997.
An important centre for agricultural trade, Fatehabad thrives on a well-developed farming economy, its affluent farming community being the key contributor. In recent years, the town has witnessed considerable development in its infrastructure. HUDA has developed a township in Sector 3 and has acquired an additional 700 acres for future development. Besides this, more retail and residential development by well-known real estate developers is in the offing. Further, the Government of India has announced plans to set up a nuclear civil power plant 20 km from AIC, Fatehabad. This proposed 1600 MW nuclear power plant will stimulate investment in the region and increase commercial activities. A plan to set up 20 Biomass-based power projects generating 183 MW in Fatehabad and neighbouring areas has also been recently announced.
Fatehabad has a distinct location advantage, being just 220 kilometres away from New Delhi. It is well-connected to all major cities of Punjab and Haryana by both road and rail. Chandigarh, the nearest airport, is just 220 kilometres from Fatehabad.
